A gas central heating system is basically a heating boiler with pipes carrying the heat to central heating radiators placed in all the rooms; these systems can be of the pumped or vented type.
Pumped systems are probably the more common ones and their main part is a feed expansion tank which acts as the centre core by heating up itself first to subsequently warm up the heaters via the pipes. The tank has enough storage space to allow for any water expansion that might result from the heating system.
In contrast, Sealed systems eliminate this primary water tank section. Water tanks are not required here because it is a closed system. Chief advantages of vented systems are: there is no risk of leaking water tank; major problems like air locks are also not associated with such systems; moreover, they are specifically useful in cold countries because there is no risk of freezing pipes.

The primary benefit of central heating is that the entire home or office is warmed up rapidly, and that too, without adversely affecting the air around you. Conventional heaters like gas fires, electric heaters and storage heaters are also quite effective. However these heaters had a odour around them and they also affected the surrounding air, making it less pleasant as an internal environment.
Central heating eliminated all of these issues, but a gas central heating system should also be regularly serviced to keep them at there peak. Spring and summer often sees these systems shut down and completely ignored, only to be abruptly switched on when a chilly wind blows in. Instead, you should start using the central heating system during the autumn season so that if any problem comes to the fore, you can call the plumber and get it rectified before the winter.
Airborne dust and other contaminants can also seep into the central heating system, necessitating periodic drainage and cleansing. You can achieve this most effectively by putting a a bucket under the valve and opening it carefully to release the water, but you need to take extra care to prevent any additional water from entering the system.
