Central Heating System cover is commonplace
Today most valuables, right from pets to mobile phones, are covered by insurance policies. Some are more essential than others, and some are even compulsory, as is the case with car insurance. Lenders need buildings home buildings insurance from borrowers before they will lend money. Insurance offers security against out of the blue events that can severely affect life and property.
Moving a step down the ladder of importance we find gas central heating insurance, such as the products offered by British Gas. These plans are used only rarely while in reality it should be the opposite because even though their rank in terms of one’s need don’t match that of insuring the actual home, the central heating system of a home is an absolute need and fixing it can be costly. The other problem is that actually getting someone to repair it can take time, and living without hot water or heating is no fun, especially in winter. More worryingly is the prospect of a faulty system leaking carbon monoxide, which can be fatal.
Anyone in the market for a new central heating boiler maintenance or breakdown plan has plenty of options. The usual insurance policy is the one that covers the basic requirements and could include annual inspection and servicing. Spare parts and repair work are not included so you carry the risks of a breakdown. For as long as the boiler is under warranty, the manufacturer pays for spare parts and repairs; but it is advisable to upgrade a basic plan to full cover with a little additional payment. Increasing your gas boiler cover to a more comprehensive plan is very important as your central heating system reaches the end of its working life. Although a customer may just want their central heating system covered, it might be prudent to have the rest of the system (radiators, heating controls, central heating pump and so on) covered too.
Watch out for small print before you choose a new insurance policy as there may be limits or exemptions written into the contract. Some providers will limit the number of call outs per year or specify a maximum cost of inclusive repairs for a given period. Central heating insurance is like all other types in that you shouldn’t just go for the cheapest deal and always study whether it has sufficient cover.
