Central heating system gas cost-efficiency guidance

Central heating system gas cost-efficiency guidance

Trimming energy usage is a popular theme in the papers and television set. gas costs seem as though they will rise for years to come and trimming your heating boiler energy consumption can only be a good thing. Whilst you use electricity and gas throughout your house you may find that up to one half of your gas charge relates to your gas heating system gas use. Every home should be able to contract its heating costs by implementing some of the guidance we have outlined below.

Look At where you are using central heating :
Check if there are any rooms which you have not used for a while such as a redundant guest room, if so turn off the central heating system radiator in that room. If an area of your home is not used often it really doesn’t need heating. If you keep the door shut to the room it will prevent the flow of chilled air around your home.

switch off a fire if you are using the gas central heating :
Gas central heating is much more cost-efficient than using a fire to heat one room. A lot of the heat generated by a fire goes up in the chimney to the outside, whilst an electric fire appears to give immediate heat it is not as cost-efficient as the central heating system in heating the room.

Draft proof where you have draughts
Stop being chilled air flowing into your home means that you do not have to pay for energy to continually heat the air. Use draft excluders or door brushes where they can be fitted. There can be gaps between the window and door frames and a wall which are easily filled with a foam based sealant. If you live in an older home you might be astonished how often these cracks occur. Whilst drafts are invisible using a wax candle flame can help to expose where they are.

Don’t switch up the heating, put on more clothes :
If you are cold in the room put on some more clothing before you move to increase the thermostatic temperature. Maintaining a 1 degree reduction on the thermostat can save up to ten% on your heating charges.

Make good use of your drapes :
In the winter make sure that the curtains are open when the sun is shining to heat your home. Outside temperatures drop at night time and your house can lose a lot of heat through the windowpanes. Closing a set of heavy curtains can trim this heat loss, saving a small amount each day amounts to a large saving on your heating costs over time. See To It you have thick or lined drapes to make them effective at preventing heat loss.

The last guidance for pruning your bills :
If your central heating system has a hot water tank this must be insulated. The hot water tank can hold its heat throughout the daytime if insulated making water available for you whenever required.

Don’t heat the walls of your house immediately at the rear of the radiators, silver foil can be used to reflect the heat pruning this energy loss.
